The First Post

I don't know if I've ever read the first post of a blog before, never mind written one. Usually by the time most of us get to a blog, it's already been reviewed by Jian Ghomeshi and the author has a book deal and we've got to pick up the thread and wonder where it's been; it's like buying an $80 pair of vintage pants: you know they were probably $2 at a thrift store six months ago, and maybe worn by a homeless guy before that, but you don't have time to look into it. You pull them on and get on with your life.

I hope this blog will come to be a biased, subjective, critical, snarky and alternately fawning, ongoing cultural review of doings, happenings, items, objects, people, spots, and the other myriad elements that conglomerate to form the unlikely city of Edmonton, Alberta.

Nota bene
: The name "Sorry About the Service" comes from a radio contest held a few years ago to bestow the city with a new tag line; people had enough of City of Champions. My suggestion for the sign on the way into town was "Welcome to Edmonton: We're Sorry About the Service." I don't know if this is a good name for a blog, but I also don't know if this blog will manifest as anything more than self-reflexive and narcissistic wordsmithery. Either way, I don't know what the city's tag line is now.

I've had some severe writer's block for the last few years and I'm hoping that SAtS will help me break through to the other side. If you're textually constipated and interested in writing some reviews, drop me an email.
