Edmonton Photo of the Week

This week's image, creatively titled img042, comes to us thanks to Flickr user dirklancer, who snapped this shot on Jasper Avenue between 96 Street and 97 Street. This shot caught my eye for a few reasons:
  1. Nice weather, no snow. It's a fictionalized version of the city at this time of year.
  2. It showcases some of the great old brick buildings that can be found in Edmonton. There are several in the downtown area that have old painted signage such as this, yet hardly anyone notices.
  3. It is a very filmic image. The division of frames and the film grain combine to created a cinematic feeling, the impression of motion, and anticipation for what comes next.
More images in this style are available from dirklancer's photostream or his website. Great work.

  1. Brilliant shot! This one will be razed to the ground shortly. They will preserve the façade on this one though.
